Do you have to become a preacher to go to Bible College?
One of the questions which are commonly asked about a bible college is whether or not one has to seek a ministry career if attending such a college. The general assessment is that to go to a bible college one has to have preaching as a career objective. This is a misconception. Where there are a few colleges where this is true, International Christian College and Seminar (ICCS) offers a diversity of programs which do not require you to go into the traditional preaching field upon graduation.
Ordained vs. Oration
When you obtain a degree in a ministry field, you can become ordained. Where this is a typically held for those which do want to become preachers in the traditional sense, there is a great benefit for those which do not want to become a preacher. A person which is seeking a teaching position at a prison or life enrichment facility would need to be ordained. This does not mean that the person needs to be a preacher or have his or her own church. This just means that you have proof that you have received proper training in biblical studies and theology.
Degrees not behind a pulpit
One of the degrees which is offered by ICCS is a Christian counselor. Where this degree does not put a person behind a pulpit, one does need to be well grounded in Christian theology, ministry, biblical studies, and oration in order to perform the task. Where in a secular college one would receive an education on how the person has a problem (based dominantly on the teachings of Secularist such as Freud), our bible college focuses on how to get a solution. The viewpoint matters greatly in how the approach to a patient is handled. One is worldly, the other is godly.
If you do not want a career dedicated to speaking then a degree in theology may be appropriate. Such careers involve more writing and research, but are less involved in oration.
Christian Education does not mean Preacher
A Christian education does not mean that you have to be a preacher. Enrolling in a Bible College means that you have made a definitive choice not to seek out the secular indoctrination which has saturated most colleges. Instead you seek to solidify your faith while at the same time receiving a valuable education. Even if you are only seeking to get core classes, the environment and overall experience which you will obtain will prepare you before embarking on your undergraduate’s degree.
