From Skeptic to Servant: How the Word of God Transformed My Life

(This testimonial was written by one of our incarcerated students, sharing their faith and study of God’s Word.)

Coming to prison was a dark time in my life, and one where I wondered how I was going to do the forty years I was given. I was baptized at a young age, but never spent much time in church. Even as I got older I never knew much about the Bible outside of what I learned as a child. I was at the lowest time of my life, and my faith was truly a shipwreck and I was skeptical about how God could use someone like me.

As I began learning more about God’s word, I was reading a book about the Bible and Archeology. The book stated that as early as 300 years ago, archeologist used the Bible as the resource for finding lost cities when looking for past civilizations. When they followed the information in the Bible it led them to the precise area they were looking for. It was then that I came to the realization that if something that simple, used for scientific reasons, was true about the word of God, then everything in the Bible must be true. This started me on my path of learning all I could about God and His word.

That was the beginning of the transformation God made in my life. I could not get enough of His word and was fascinated with learning more and more about the Book I knew so little about. I began this journey seven years ago and since then I have obtained by B.A. in Theology, a certificate of Chaplaincy, and I am now starting my master’s degree in missions and intercultural studies. God truly gave me purpose and showed me how His word reaches and brings alive the greatest of skeptics.
