Led by the Spirit: How I Study God’s Word with Intention

(This Bible Study Tips was written by one of our incarcerated students, sharing their faith and study of God’s Word.)

Before I do any type of Bible Study I pray that God give me wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

I will read and collect information and draw conclusions based on the 5W’s

1. Who (Author of the Book)
2. What (Subject/Outline)
3. Why (Purpose of the Bible Book)
4. Where (Location)
5. When (Timeline)

There are times that I will listen to music and then I have days when I am quiet and listening to what the Holy Spirit is saying to me through the Word.

I use the Inductive Method that I learned through the Cheyenne Bible Institute. I will observe the text, the contents, observe, interpret, apply and organize. I am going through a journey of discovery of God’s Word. I am interpreting through Biblical Interpretation and scriptural cross referencing the meaning of the scripture. I apply Godly principles of applicability by obedience to the Word of God, according to God’s purpose. I have found that in order to have a better understanding of the Word of God that outlining, topics and character studies are mandatory for success.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, He will guide you into all truth. John 16:13-15

Finally at the beginning and the end of the Bible Study you need to determine how the Words in the Bible Study are applicable in this present time and how God’s people were impacted by the Words in the text.

Focusing on God’s Plan, God’s Purpose, God’s Perspective will help you to have a better understanding of God’s Word.
